Giving to Baptist College

Why Give to Baptist College?

With a tradition of providing one of the finest educations in our area for nursing and allied health students, Baptist College has experienced unprecedented growth recently. In fact, last fall we enrolled 925 students— many of whom are first-generation college students. We’ve come a long way since graduating our first class of 33 baccalaureate students in 1995. While an increasing enrollment is great news for the health care community, it brings with it an increasing need for student scholarships. In addition, as the cost of higher education continues to rise, support from our donors is becoming increasingly important. As friends or alumni of Baptist College of Health Sciences or Baptist Memorial Hospital, you have an exciting opportunity to help today’s students shape their futures by contributing to an exceptional education that prepares them for the ever-changing world of health care. We are all asked to support many charities, but there may be none more important than helping health care students achieve their educational goals. Baptist College needs your help to meet the challenges that come with rapid growth.

How You Can Support Baptist College Today

Gifts can be targeted to selected funds or to a general fund that allows Baptist College to apply the gift as needed. We have several different giving opportunities you may want to consider:

Title III Matching Funds Endowment

Baptist College of Health Sciences has begun raising $150,000 for an endowment that will be matched dollar for dollar by U.S. Department of Education—with the potential to raise $300,000 over five years! This endowment match is part of the larger Title III grant that will be used to ensure the academic success of nursing and allied health students. These matching funds are intended to help colleges become self-sufficient by building an endowment that will provide future earnings to be used for operational needs, such as facilities improvements and technology and equipment purchases to enhance student learning. Through the generosity of alumni, friends, faculty, staff and a private foundation, we have already met our match for the first and second years of the grant period, raising more that $60,000, which means $120,000 to the College. But we’re only part of the way there. Contributing to the Title III Matching Funds campaign is a wonderful way to show current and upcoming students at Baptist College that you are committed to helping them succeed. And remember—whether you give $25, $50 or $100—your gift will be doubled!

Student Scholarships

Baptist College of Health Sciences has several student scholarships that are funded by alumni and friends of the College. Scholarship support is vital for our students. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of our students, supporting scholarships is one of the best ways to make sure deserving students receive one of the best health care educations available in the Memphis area. To make a gift to any of these scholarships, to the Title III matching funds, or to the College’s general endowment, please contact Mary MacKinnon, development officer, at (901) 572-2773. The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation can assist you with gifts of estates, trusts, and stock.
