The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) Mission

CAE Mission Statement:To support a College community of engaged learners and promote a culture of excellence in teaching and learning that reflects best practices.    

Goals:

1. Support development of motivated self-directed learners

• Develop and implement campus wide process that teaches students to manage their own learning.
• Learning Portfolios-implement learning strategies
• Provide faculty resources to facilitate engaged student learning.
• Information literacy  

2. Promote best practices in teaching and learning.

• Provide new faculty curriculum and resources promoting best practices in their new role as educators.
• Learning Academy of Scholars  

3. Collaborate with appropriate Collegiate entities regarding infrastructure needs to support CAE mission.          

• Provide electronic capability for learning portfolios (student, faculty)

The CAE includes both the Learning Center and the Health Sciences Library, of which both support the College's mission of preparing heatlhcare professionals for the diverse practice environment in healthcare. The Center also supports innovation and scholarship in teaching and learning. 

The CAE offers opportunities for both staff and faculty development through various activities (professional development workshops, annual conferences and small grants).

The Learning Center (LC), which is located in the Science Building at 22 N. Pauline, functions to provide students with the extra assistance in course content and activities necessary for academic success. The LC assists students to become better learners, emphasizing best practices for learning, with the assistance of computers, software programs, textbooks, models, simulation and a Student Assistance/Tutoring program that offers direct service to students, giving them extra assistance outside of the classroom.

Additionally, the Learning Center assists students in taking the College Student Inventory (CSI), which is a self report questionnaire. The CSI assesses students' needs and strengths and aids the College in implementing referral and intervention programs to help students become more focused and more successful.

The Health Sciences Library is located on the first floor of the main campus, providing services and resources to support the information and education needs of the faculty and students. The Library provides a place to study and an adjacent court yard with Wi-Fi access. Whichever subject you are studying, resources are available to meet your needs for research and completion of course assignments.
