Message from the Dean, Division of Nursing

Nursing is pivotal in improving the health care status of the public while ensuring safe, effective, efficient, and quality care.  Nursing, consistently named the most trusted profession, is in evolution and positioned to assume an ever expanding role, especially in light of health care reform.  The faculty at Baptist College of Health Sciences are dedicated to providing the quality education that prepares nurses to succeed in today's evolving health care environment.

Anne Plumb, Dean, Division of Nursing, Baptist College of Health Sciences

Baccalaureate nursing education provides the essential knowledge and skills required for the entry-level registered nurse as well as a sound foundation for graduate study for advanced practice nursing positions such as nurse practitioners, midwives, and nurse educators.  Highly educated nurses are crucial for management of the complex problems in this ever changing health care environment.  The BCHS nursing program provides a strong liberal education upon which nursing courses build and the development of critical skills in a diverse array of health care settings.  Small class size allows faculty to plan and oversee all aspects of the student's experience.  The Baptist College is fortunate to be affiliated with a large, respected health care facility that provides sites for many clinical experiences; however, various other facilities in three states are also used to enhance and expand the student's leaning experience.

Why BCHS may be the Nursing Program for You:

  • Since our first graduation in 1999, over 1500 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees have been awarded.
  • Nursing students gain clinical experience in a laboratory environment on campus.  Our simulation lab includes high-level simulators that model human physiological responses.  Students also gain experience in cutting edge medical settings throughout the tri-state area of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. In particular, our affiliation with the Baptist Hospital system allows our students unparalleled access to enriching hands-on training.
  • The NCLEX pass rate for BCHS students has been 92 percent or better for the registered nurse licensure exam, consistently surpassing the pass rates for both the state of Tennessee and the United States.
